What is the West Houston Wrestling Club?
We are a chartered member of Texas USA Wrestling and compete in kid's folkstyle, freestyle,
and greco roman wrestling. We are not affiliated with any particular school and do not compete in UIL.
What is wrestling?
Kids,
high school, college, and olympic wrestling is nothing like what you see on TV with WWE. Here, there are no actors, no no fake blood,
no chairs, no ropes, no ladders, or any other theatrics. There is no punching, kicking, biting, pulling hair, etc. The goal of wrestling
is still to try to get a pin, by holding an opponents back to the mat. However, wrestlers accomplish this goal by executing takedowns.

Why should I/my kid join wrestling?
Wrestling is a sport
famous for developing young people. It is an individual sport, so in order to be successful you have to be better than the guy/girl
across from you. When you lose, there is no pointing fingers anywhere but inward -- it offers ultimate accountability. The only path
to winning is hard work, discipline, and passion. While wrestling may not be the best spectator sport and on TV every Sunday, you
would be hard-pressed to find a former wrestler who didn't wholly embrace the experience and take away many positives.
Many
kids are attracted to wrestling because all sizes and shapes of kids can be successful. Each age has weight classes and kids are only
asked to wrestle kids their own age and weight. Small, big, tall, short, strong, weak kids and adults have all succeeded in wrestling
at the highest level, because there is a way to win with every body type.
Where/When do we practice/compete?
Practice will be
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays beginning October 26th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at West Briar Middle School for the elementary kids.
West Briar Middle School wrestlers will practice with the team after school until 6:00 PM. Meets are always on Saturdays
and will usually be in Spring. This year we will also have some mini-camps on Saturdays to help speed up the learning process and
get our kids in shape!
